Follower Count: Vanity Metric or Valuable Asset?

We all love to see that number climb! Every new follower feels like a win. But here’s the truth: a follower count is just a number. It’s a vanity metric if it’s not made up of your ideal clients.

Let me explain.

Imagine your Grandma is your biggest fan on social media. She loves every post, leaves the sweetest comments, and her likes are always the first to appear. But is Grandma your ideal client?

Probably not.

While her support is heartwarming, Grandma likely isn’t planning a wedding. Your ideal client is a young couple, excited about their upcoming nuptials, actively searching for a photographer who aligns with their vision.

Why focus on ideal clients?

  • Targeted Engagement: When your feed is filled with people genuinely interested in your work, you’ll see higher engagement rates. Comments will be relevant, questions will be insightful, and you’ll build genuine connections.
  • Increased Conversions: Ideal clients are more likely to inquire about your services, book your packages, and become raving fans who refer you to their friends.
  • Reduced Marketing Costs: By focusing your efforts on reaching the right audience, you’ll see a better return on your marketing investments.

How to attract ideal clients:

  • Create High-Quality, Targeted Content: Share images and videos that showcase your unique style and resonate with your ideal client’s aesthetic. You want your audience to *feel* something when they see your work, that draws them in and starts a conversation.
  • Use Relevant Hashtags: Research and use hashtags that your ideal clients are actively searching for.
  • Engage with Your Audience: Respond to comments, answer questions, and build relationships with potential clients in addition to my relationship marketing framework.

Remember:

A small, engaged following of ideal clients is far more valuable than a large, passive following of random individuals.

Focus on building a community of dream couples who are excited to work with you. That’s true social media success!
